I was fascinated by life in Yoff, with its sandy streets and night-long chanting. One of my favorite snacks in Senegal was Skippy peanut butter, bought from the American Food Store next to our Embassy, with bananas bought on the street in Yoff. It was funny; the local vendors sold bananas not from Senegalese farms, but rather multinational fruit companies, brands like Chiquita that you would buy in the States.
In Yoff, the language is Wolof, even if people speak French at work or school.
I enjoyed my time in Senegal, but I am also glad to be back in Princeton.
